Abstract
479,150. Cable joints. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., TUNNICLIFF, E., BRAZIER, K. S., and BRAZIER, L. G. Sept. 29, 1936, No. 26415. [Class 38 (i)] In a cable joint, the housing 5, plumbed to end pieces 6 which act as stress cones, is divided by partitions 9 into a central liquidfilled joint chamber 10 and two end chambers 11 which are filled through orifices 20 with liquid which, after cooling or polymerisation, is in such a state that it will not readily pass into the jointing chamber 10. Preferably, a silica-oil composition as described in Specification 478,222, [Group V], is used. Wrappings of insulating tape 12, 14 position the partitions 9 and supporting spiders 13 on the cable insulation 2. The central part of the housing is enlarged to receive an insulating sleeve 16, a reservoir being placed above it and communicating with the housing through the hole 18. Holes 15, 19 are provided to facilitate filling the housing with liquid and these, with the hole 20 may be sealed with plumbing metal. The joint between the stress cones (i and the lead sheath is provided by a metal tape wrapping 7 and wiped joint 8.
