478,117. Stays. AUSTER, Ltd., CARTY, S. A., and SMALL, W. W. Sept. 7, 1936, No. 28274/37. Divided out of 477,087. [Class 65 (i)] A stay for a vehicle windscreen comprises a pair of relatively movable bars or members with retaining means, to hold the screen open, comprising a lever on one member adapted to press a pivoted intermediate member against the other member. In the form shown, the screen 1 has fixed to it a toothed bar 6, and a bar 4 of channel section is pivoted to the fixed frame of the windscreen, a member 8 fixed to the end of the bar 4 embracing the bar 6 and sliding along it; a toothed member 14, pivoted on the member 8, is pressed into engagement with the teeth of the bar 6, against the action of a spring 18, by a pivoted lever 11 also carried by the member 8, to hold the screen in any open position. The intermediate member 12 carries a blade spring, supported by a rubber block 15, for engagement with the edge of the lever 11, which is shaped to engage the spring with a snapaction so that it is held in the locking position. The lever 11 is formed with a finger-pull and with a hook 19 which engages a pin on the frame to hold the screen closed. In a modification, the bar 6, instead of being fixed to the screen 1, is pivoted to the screen at its lower end and slides in the member 4, forming a telescopic stay. According to the Provisional Specification the members 6, 14 may be merely roughened instead of toothed.
