Abstract
477,776. Washing clay, loam, etc.; impact pulverizers. NICOLAS, C. M. J. A. F. July 3, 1936, No. 18570. [Classes 59 and 82 (ii)] Masses of clay, loam, &c. containing mineral values and coarse solid bodies such as stones are broken up by passing them along a trough containing washing liquid which is agitated by rotating agitator members comprising one or more shafts with beater arms which revolve at a speed of 100-200 r.p.m. The ends of the beater arms are at such a distance from the trough wall, e.g. at least 15 cm., that even the largest stones cannot become jammed. The agitation of the liquid disintegrates the masses, washes the clay away from the stones &c. and sets free the values, the stones forming a loose mass at the bottom of the trough. The trough 1, which may be made of wood with an internal metal lining 11, has a cover 12, which may also have a metal lining 13, and inlet and outlet openings 4 and 5 respectively. The material and liquid is agitated by beater arms 3 on one or more shafts 2 driven at a high speed by a belt pulley 9.
