Abstract

A process for incorporating cellulose ethers in rubber, balata, guttapercha, factis, and rubber latex comprises dissolving the cellulose ether in a fatty acid, e.g. oleic or stearic acid, with the application of heat, mixing the solution with a mineral oil, and then adding the rubber &c. In a modified process, a volatile solvent for the cellulose ether, e.g. a mixture of benzol and acetone, is added to a mixture of the ether and fatty acid, or the fatty acid is added to the ether which has been partly or wholly dissolved in the solvent, the mixture is heated to evaporate the solvent, the solution obtained is mixed with mineral oil, and the rubber &c. is then added. In an example, triethyl or tribenzyl cellulose is dissolved in oleic acid, castor oil and a light mineral oil are added, and the mixture is incorporated in rubber.
