[Class 44] [Also in Group XIV] A folding-leg table or like article of furniture has fastening means for retaining the legs in the unfolded position comprising a metal blade or strip 18 provided with a slot 19 on one member adapted to be engaged by a metal tongue or peg 20 on the other member, the metal fittings also including at least one of a pair of co-operating stops to limit the unfolding movement at the position in which the tongue becomes engaged with the slot. As shown a plate 17 on the leg 13 is formed with the projection 20 which engages the slot 19 and also abuts against the edge of a plate 16 fixed to a transverse batten 15<1> to form the stop. The free end of the blade 18 is formed as a finger grip. A spring clip retains the legs in the folded position. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which a resilient blade 27 is fixed to a corner bracket 23 carrying the hinged leg 24 and a plate 25 fixed to the leg has a tongue 26 adapted to engage a slot 28 in the blade. A screw 30 on the leg abuts against the anchored part of the blade to form the stop, which is thus rendered adjustable. A short stiff arm 29 limits the release movement of the resilient blade to prevent breakage. To retain the leg in the folded position another tongue may be provided to engage the blade. The legs may be urged to the folded position by springs. The fastening means for the legs may be interconnected for simultaneous operation, e.g. by an eccentrically mounted coupling rod.
