[Class 44] A fastening for bulkhead doors, hatch covers, and the like, particularly doors &c. of the kind having panels 3 spaced apart and reinforced as by a corrugated member 4, cornprises a flanged sleeve 21 passed through apertures in the panels and edge strips 5, and retained by deforming the reduced end 23 over the end of a sleeve 24 with internal flange 26 fitting the reduced portion 23. A spacing sleeve 17 is placed between the panels to prevent their deformation in the fixing process, the sleeve being put in place between the panels before angle-irons 6, 8 are welded or otherwise secured in place round the edge of the door. The irons 6, 8 provide a channel holding a gasket 9 which bears against the fixed frame 15 when the door &c. is closed, the frame being provided with the catch receiving socket or keeper 16. The ends of sleeve 17 are preferably chamfered to provide conical seats on to which the edges of the apertures in the panels 3 are forced, the inner face of flange 22 on sleeve 21, and the inner end of sleeve 24 being correspondingly coned. The spindle 27 carrying a handle 28 at one end and squared at the other end to receive a handle 31 secured by nut 32 is rotatable in sleeve 21, handle 31 having an integral catch member 33 with inclined face 34 to tighten the door with a wedging action. Gaskets 30 and a bush 35 may be provided, the bush having slots 36 and the sleeve 21 lubricant channels 37, the bearing preferably being provided with semi-solid lubricant or packing impregnated with lubricant.
