Abstract
474,429. Shoe-en1 stiffeners. HERCULES CHEMICAL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., EDWARDS, J. S., LEE, H. S., and CHRISTMAS, J. A. April 30, 1936, No. 12335. [Class 17 (ii)] A shoe-upper end stiffener comprises a blank 1 of fibrous material stiffened by treatment with a stiffening agent and having a flexible tape 3 secured along that part of the marginal edge which, in the shoe, is not secured to the sole. The blank may be skived, rolled, or pressed in the region 2 when the flexible tape is secured or applied and the tape preferably overlaps the edge of the blank. The tape may be secured to the blank by adhesive applied to either the edge of the blank or to the tape, or alternatively, the tape may be of the selfadhesive type. The tape may or may not conform to the shape of the marginal edge of the blank.
