[Class 44] [Also in Group XIV] A locking device for the folding legs of tables and other articles of furniture of the type comprising a spring-controlled pivoted catch e and a catch plate d<2>, one part being mounted on the leg b and the other on the underside of the table top a outwardly of the leg, has the part mounted on the table top formed as a separate and independent member capable of linear adjustment in the plane in which the leg folds, so that the angle between the erected leg and the table top can be varied. Each leg is mounted on a hinge pin c, to fold diagonally and has a transverse slot b<1> in which is located the catch e pivoted on a pin e<2> and controlled by a spring e<1>, the free end of the catch having a transverse pin e<3>. The hinge pin c is supported between brackets secured to a triangular block h fixed in the corners of the frame a<1> and channelled at d<6> to form a guide for the adjustable catch plate d<2> provided with a transverse groove d<3> to engage the transverse pin e<3> of the catch. In assembling the table the catch and catch plate are engaged before the catch plate is fixed within its channel d<6>, the leg is moved to the required position, and the catch plate is then secured by a screw j. The bottom of the channel d<6> may be lined with metal. Instead of the transverse pin e<3>, the catch may have a transverse groove adapted to engage a rib provided on the catch plate.
