Abstract

470,415. Feeding webs. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1936, No. 4538. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1935. [Class 100 (i)] In apparatus for the dyeing or like treatment of fabric webs in which the web passes from one batch roll to another, each batch roll is provided with a brake; and a member for applying the braking force is moved as the web winds from one roll to the other in such a manner as to reduce the braking force on the roll from which the web is being delivered so as to maintain the tension of the web substantially constant. The batch rolls 2, 3 are provided with brake bands 15, 16 anchored at one end and connected at the other end through springs 17, 18 and turn-buckles 1 to blocks 12 adjustably secured by screws 11 to the arms of a bell-crank lever 9 fixed to a shaft 5 to which is also secured a bar 7 carrying rollers 27 engaging the web. As the web is unwound, the arm 7 moves in such a direction that the tension of the brake spring of the unwinding batch roll is gradually decreased thus maintaining a constant tension in the fabric. The batch rolls during the winding of the fabric thereon rotate towards the anchored ends of the brake bands so that, in spite of the increasing tension of the brake spring, no substantial resistance to winding is provided by the brake.
