[Class 141] A skirt of the kind having slits at the front and back and extra material on the leg portions so that it can be converted into trousers is characterized in that the strips of extra material are extended in practically full width right up to the leg joins and are provided with fastening devices so as to enable them to be connected to form the crutch portion of the garment. The front and back are each cut in two portions, 1 and 3 forming the front, and 2 and 4, Figs. 2 and 4, forming the back. Portions 1 and 4 are provided with narrow extensions 14 and portions 2 and 3 with wide extensions 13. The front edges of all the extensions and the top edges of the wide extensions are provided with releasable fastening devices 15, 17 such as buttons and buttonholes. The front and back portions are sewn together along the seams 5, at the sides, and along the seams 7 at the front and back. The front edges are then releasably secured together either as shown in Fig. 2 to form a skirt, or as shown in Fig. 4, to form shorts. In the skirt form the releasable fasteners 17 on the top edges of the extensions are connected to complementary fasteners 11 on flaps 8 secured to the garment. The flaps support the pleats which are formed at the front and back to conceal the front edge fasteners. When the garment is converted into shorts the fasteners 17 on the top edges of the wide extension are fastened together to form the crutch.
