Abstract

469,716. P i l e s. HANDELMAATSCHAPPIJ J-. DE WIT & ZONEN N. V., and WIT, J. DE. Jan. 4, 1937, No. 175. [Class 68 (ii)] Concrete piles are formed in situ by means of a tube 1 at the lower end of which is provided a body 2 of concrete, cast iron or other material, a portion of this body formed as cone or pyramid projecting into the tube 1 and being surrounded by a quantity of more or less dry concrete provided in the lower end of the tube 1. The tube 1 is sunk by blows imparted by a rammer 7 to the concrete mass 6 and when the desired depth is reached the tube is raised slightly, and, after a fresh supply of concrete and reinforcement comprising longitudinal rods held by spiral windings has been inserted into the tube, part of the concrete is driven out by the rammer to form a widened pile base. The tube is then drawn up further and more concrete is added and rammed to enlarge the base. The body 2 may have its upper portion surrounded by a reinforcing cage 3, the members of which have their lower ends bent up to form extensions 4 which may be disposed either inside or outside the tube 1. When concrete is rammed out of the tube 1 the extensions 4 spread out and form reinforcement for the wide base thus formed.
