Abstract

469,104. Circular loom shuttles. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd., DICKIE, W. A., and HALE, F. C. Jan. 17, 1936, No. 1556. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iii)] The shuttle 6 has clips 61 for holding a stationary spool 7 with large circular flanges, an annular guide 15 coaxial with the spool preventing the unwinding thread from contacting with a flange of the spool. The guide may comprise a light wire spider with an annular rim or ring 15 situated as shown, or with two rims &c. and with arms 14 supported by an outstanding flange 16 on a hollow spindle 13 mounted in a split bushing sprung into the spool bore. The unwinding weft after passing over the guide passes through the hollow spindle and through guides on the shuttle to the fabric fell. The guide may be rotated by the unwinding weft and be formed with hooks 18, which can be engaged by the weft but slip over this when the spider overruns. Rotation of the spider may be braked by a spring 20. A modification is described wherein a fixed guide 31, 32, Fig. 4, is used. A length of furry material, such as sheepskin, or catskin, may be carried by a curved support 35 attached to the shuttle and be arranged to contact with the thread so as to prevent successive overrunning thereof when weaving stops. When weaving with crepe weft &c., the fur may be arranged to contact with the entire periphery of the rim 32. The spool may be surrounded by a box or casing. Specification 413,376 is referred to.
