[Class 38 (iv)] Temperature.-When a body to be maintained at constant temperature is placed within a thermostatically controlled chamber of good heat conductivity, the thermometric time lag and the effect of temperature gradient in the space surrounding the body are minimized by placing adjacent to the body heated an auxiliary heat source, small with respect to the main source of heat, and controlled by the thermostatic device. As shown in the Figure the main heat source comprises electric resistances 3. A small portion thereof is placed at 6 under the body 1 which is to have its temperature maintained constant and the thermostatic means 2 controls the supply of current to both. The resistance 6 may be adjusted to give any desired correction for variations in ambient temperature.
