A resistor 4 in a four arm bridge is varied by a healing fluid valve positioning motor 6, and other resistors 3, 42 are responsive to outside and inside temperatures respectively. Fixed or variable resistors 41 may be connected as shown either directly, or through one or more thermostats, although relays to provide a night set back condition or rapid heating. The resistor 4 may be controlled non-linearly by means of a non- linear cam. The resistor 3 may comprise two temperature dependent resistors (16), (17), Fig. 3 (not shown) one of which is thermally insulated to give an averaging effect.
