[Also in Division G3] In a thermostatically controlled heating or cooling system a detector of solar radiation is arranged to adjust the setting of the thermostat when the daylight is less than normal. Examples given include lowering the temperature of a glasshouse or hot water or central heating system at night, or allowing the setting of air conditioning or refrigeration plant to rise. The radiation detector may be a photo-conductive cell, a light sensitive semi-conductor or a thermistor bead, and it may be connected in a bridge circuit with the thermostat or, where the latter is a thermistor, it may switch in and out an additional series resistor. Reference has been directed by Comptroller to Specification 883,346.
