Abstract
463,517. Grating-floors. STANIFORTH, A. V. May 23, 1936, No. 14595. [Class 107] A grating-floor for buildings is made up of a number of parallel profile sections 10 of T- cross-section, which are arranged so that their flanges constitute the tread surface and are spaced apart to leave gaps for the passage of air and light, the sections being welded at their ends to bearer members 11 which are disposed with their upper edges flush with the tread surface of the sections 10 and are supported on the structural work of the building. The bearers 11 may be of L-section, the ends of the sections 10 being supported on the base flanges thereof and in abutting relation with the inner faces of the vertical flanges 15 of the bearers. Alternate sections 10, or sections at other predetermined intervals, may be inverted so that their flanges rest upon the base flanges of the bearers. Spacer strips 14 of mild steel may be welded between the sections 10, either at the upper surfaces of these sections as shown in the Figure, or at the lower surfaces thereof. The tread surface of the sections 10 may be chequered or otherwise rendered uneven.
