463,018. Rolling. DURENER METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. WERK WITTENAU. July 7, 1936, No. 18853. Convention date, Aug. 29, 1935. [Class 83 (iv)] Strips, sheets, or rods are rolled to a longitudinal taper, by automatically adjusting the roll pass continually during rolling, depending on the speed of the rolls and/or on the material being rolled. The roll drive is coupled to a gear 12 which transmits adjustment to the roll screws through a regulating gear 10, a clutch 11, worm drive 8 and gear wheel 6 turning the pinions 5 of the roll screws. The gear 12 is provided with a hand adjusting lever 13 which acts on the sides of the double coned belt pulleys to vary the transmission speed. The drive from 12 to 10 is provided with a coupling 14 internally threaded at one end and with a square socket at the other end, whereby differential speed of the two shafts therein screws the coupling to move axially and actuate through links 15, 16, the adjustable cones of the belt pulleys in the gear 10. A motor 9 drives one part of the gear 10, but the drive may be coupled to a roll'shaft when the extra gear box 12 may be eliminated. The drive of the gear and the regulator 10 is automatically started and stopped in dependence on the material being rolled. The gear 10 may be dispensed with.
