Abstract
460,790. Sand blast. LUMB, C. F. Sept. 28, 1935, No. 26874. [Class 60] Apparatus for the sandblasting or like treatment of metal &c. surfaces, for example, the hull of a ship comprises a casing 1 having therein a rotary impeller to which abrasive is fed by a tube 2 ; the impeller may comprise a disc having radial vanes on one or both sides, and is driven direct, or through belting or gearing, by an electric motor 3 mounted in a cradle 4. The casing 1 is provided at its outlet or outlets with a tube or funnel 5 made of rubber, canvas, &c. adapted to contact with the work, and to the inner surfaces of which metal &c. protecting plates may be attached, and the casing may be mounted by means of a universal joint 8 ... 12 on a trolley 7, or may be suspended by means of a crane so as to be movable over the work by means of a handle 6. The abrasive employed may comprise split shot or metal grit, and an aperture 14 may be provided in the funnel 5 to allow the abrasive to pass out to a receptacle or a suction hose. Magnetic metal abrasive may be used and a magnetic collector provided, from which the abrasive may be dropped into a conveyer &c.
