459,491. Vehicle bodies and underframes. GREGOIRE, J. A., 3, Rue EugÚne Flachat, Paris. Aug. 1, 1936, Nos. 21383 and 21384. Convention dates, Aug. l, 1935 and July 10, 1936. [Class 108 (i)] A combined body and chassis for vehicles comprises two side underframe members of light cast metal connected together by a, front unit of cast light metal consisting of the cowl, dash, and windscreen pillars. The side memi bers may also be connected at the front and rear by sheet or cast metal cross-members. Fig. 1 shows two side light metal castings 1 with seatings 6 upon which the front unit 2 of light cast metal is secured. The vehicle body may be completed by other castings such as the rear unit 7 and roof 8. The doors may be hinged to lugs integral with the front unit which, for lightness sake, may be cast with a flange 20 so that the dash may comprise a sheet metal plate riveted thereon. This metal plate may be replaced by two spaced plates for insulating purposes and an upper compartment 21 may be formed in the cowl having closing flaps 22, 23 by which cool or hot air may be admitted to the body. The side castings 1 may be connected at front and rear by sheet or cast metal cross-members 3, 4. If desired the side castings and the body may be covered by a sheet metal panelling appropriately secured and the side castings may be of various forms such as shown at 16 in Fig. 6, the lower parts 17, 18 of the front unit being shown.
