Abstract

Hydroxycarbazole monosulphonic acids are obtained by reacting hydroxycarbazoles with halogen-sulphonic acids in an organic solvent. In examples, 2-(or 1-)hydroxycarbazole is reacted with chlor-(or fluor-)sulphonic acid under varying conditions in solvents such as nitrobenzene, ethyl acetate and glacial acetic acid to give 2-hydroxycarbazole-3(or 7)-sulphonic acid and other products of unknown orientation. Specification 371,827 is referred to.
