Abstract
454,532. Pianofortes. MORLEY & CO., Ltd., R., and MORLEY, F. D., 123, High Street, Lewisham, London. Jan. 31, 1936, No. 3005. [Class 88 (ii)] A pianoforte having as usual two or more simultaneously struck strings per note arranged in a plane parallel to the soundboard has the soundboard bridge arranged at the striking end of the strings. As shown for an ordinary vertical strung instrument in Fig. 1, the soundboard bridge a is continuous, substantially rectilinear, and substantially parallel to the strike line. The strings pass over a rigid bridge or bridges f, integral with or secured to the iron frame, direct to the hitch-pins. The bridge or bridges f may be uniformly curved, or stepped to make the strings of each note of the same length. The soundboard is carried up under the wrest-plank. Fig. 5 shows an overstrung arrangement intended for use with an action below the level of the keyboard.
