Abstract

453,959. Paper - folding machines. SPIESS, G., 78, Zschocherschestrasse, Leipsic, Germany. May 20, 1935, No. 14755. Convention date, May 19, 1934. [Class 100 (i)] An attachment for a folding machine to adapt it for dealing with sheets of abnormal size comprises a frame arranged for attachment to the main machine and carrying folding rollers dimensioned for folding sheets of greater width than those with which the main machine is capable of dealing, means being provided on the frame for feeding the sheets to the folding rollers and delivering the folded sheets to the main machine. In one form, Figs. 1 and 3, the frame 3 is mounted above the feed-table 2 of the main machine 1 and carries a pivoted feed-table 15 whereby sheets can be fed either to the folding-table 4 of the attachment or directly to the table 2. Rollers 5, 6 are arranged parallel to the direction of feed and below the table 4, the roller 6 being formed as a suction roller as described in Specification 375,542, so that a first fold is imparted by buckling each sheet between the rollers. A succeeding parallel fold is formed by a buckling- folder 9, 9<a> from which the sheet passes on to the table 2. The attachment may use a folder. constructed as described in Specification 394,058 in which a fixed inclined blade directs the sheets between the rollers. In a modified arrangement, the attachment is fixed beneath the table 2 and has a reciprocating blade which moves each sheet upwardly between rollers to form the first fold. The attachment may include an automatic sheet feed..
