Abstract

450,352. Cylinders. NATIONAL GAS & OIL ENGINE CO., Ltd., BALMFORD, A. B., and BURN, W. S., Laurel Lodge, Hart Station, Hartlepool. Nov. 13, 1934, No. 32655. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In a two - stroke engine cylinder, a ring of tangential piston-controlled inlet ports 1 are arranged above a ring of exhaust ports 2, the scavenging-air being thus caused to follow a helical path up the cylinder bore and to expel the exhaust gas down the cylinder axis. The inlet ports, which are formed as nozzles, are shut off by mechanically or automatically operated valves 5 until the pressure in the cylinder is reduced to that of the scavenging-charge. The cylinder head is formed as shown to facilitate the reversal of flow, fuel issuing radially from an axiallyarranged injection device.
