Abstract
449,344. Ventilators. HUGHES, B. D., and GREENWOOD'S VENTILATING CO., Ltd., 22, Newman Street, Oxford Street, London. Feb. 20, 1935, No. 5492. [Class 137] A ventilating grille comprises a metal plate 1 having rectangular apertures 2 which are screened by air deflecting strips 4 secured at 6, for example by rivets, to the rear face of a plate 8, with corresponding apertures 9, so that a deflecting strip is located immediately behind each pair of apertures. The plate 8 slides in channels 11 on strips 12 secured to the plate 1, and is operated by a knob 14 the shank of which passes through a slot 13 in the plate 1, and is secured to the plate 8. Movement of the plate 8 causes the openings 2 and 9 to register, or alternatively the openings 2 to be covered by the parts of the plate 8 intermediate the apertures 9. In modifications, the strips 4 are attached directly to the plate 1, the " hit-and-miss '' device being dispensed with, or the strips may be formed as a single unit, or made by cutting the plate and bending out the strip portions.
