Abstract

<PICT:0448543/III/1> <PICT:0448543/III/2> Comprises heat-insulating mats consisting of a plurality of corrugated sheets or foils of cellulose esters, especially the acetate, which may contain heat reflecting flakes or metal powder. Two rolls 1, 2 are arranged with their axes horizontal, and are rotated by a motor 3. The roll 2 is partly immersed in a liquid 5 capable of joining the foils together, the thickness of the film being controlled by a scraper 6. Each foil 7 is fed over a bridge 8 so that the apices of the corrugations are wetted, and is received on a platform 9. The foil passes on to a table 10 which is turned 90 DEG for each foil, so that the corrugations are at right angles. The mat is then subjected to moderate pressing and dried. The corrugations are preferably V-shaped. The adhesive may be a solution of cellulose acetate in a mixture of acetone and acetic acid, or other solvent, or may be the solvent alone.
