448,489. Making foam. CONCORDIA ELEKTRIZITATS AKT.-GES., and GOSSMANN, W., 231, Munsterstrasse, Dortmund, Germany. Oct. 10, 1935, No. 28027. [Class 47 (ii)] A device for generating foam by mixing a gas and a foaming liquid under pressure, consists of a mixing chamber 1, Fig. 4, into which project two axially-aligned nozzles 15, 17 supplied respectively with foaming liquid and gas. The nozzles are brought close together, so that the jets of liquid and gas issuing from them impinge over their entire cross-sectional area. Whirling motion may be imparted to the jets by guide means in the nozzles. The chamber 1 is formed with an annular enlargement 10 adjacent the point of foam production, and the foam discharge pipe 18 is led off tangentially from the chamber. The foaming solution is forced from a container to the nozzle 15 by gas pressure byepassed from the gas source. A pre-formed mixture of water and saponin may be supplied to the nozzle 15 or, as shown, the foaming agent is supplied to an inner concentric nozzle 16, which has ports 19 to allow some of the agent to mix with the water in the nozzle 15. In a modification, Fig. 2, separate nozzles 11-13 for the foaming ingredients are angularly spaced in the chamber 1 so that their jets impinge at a central point. Cocks in the ingredient supply pipes allow the consistency of the foam to be varied.
