Abstract
Water-insoluble blue and violet azo dyes are formed on the fibre by coupling a 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic arylamide free from watersolubilizing groups with a diazotized 4-hexahydrobenzoylamino-2 : 5-dialkoxyaniline. In examples: (1) cotton skeins are padded with the anilide of 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid and developed with the diazotized dimethoxy derivative; (2) cotton piece goods are printed with a paste containing the diazoimino compound from the dimethoxy derivative and piperidine-a -carboxylic acid, the anilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid, turkey red oil, caustic soda and starch tragacanth and the colour developed by treating with steam containing acetic acid vapours. Sarcosine, ethyltaurine, proline and methylglucamine may be used instead of piperidine-a -carboxylic acid and diazo salts may be used instead of the diazoimino compound.
