Abstract
444,273. Steering motor vehicles. BALLAMY, L. M., 63, Old Town, Clapham, London. Nov. 1, 1934, No. 31401. [Class 79 (v)] [See also Group XXXII] In independent wheel suspension for vehicles in which the wheel carrying lever is pivoted coaxially with a torsion spring, a three-part track rod is provided, the central part of which is connected by rocking means with the chassis and the end parts are pivoted by horizontal pivots which are coaxial with the torsion rods. The axle levers 14 are provided with trunnions 13 carried on bearings 12 on the chassis or frame 11. Rocking arms or brackets 23 are pivoted to the frame at 24 and are interconnected by a track rod 21 and also carry about vertical axes 26 members 27 having horizontal axes 28 to which the inner ends of track rod parts 22 are pivoted, the arrangement being such that in straight ahead movement the pivot axis 28, the trunnions 13 of the axle levers and the axis of the torsion bars 19 are coaxial. The outer ends of the rods 22 are connected to the steering heads. In the arrangement described in Specification 429,627 the width of the chassis member would be such as to permit the torsion rods to lie along each side of the crank-case.
