[Class 99 (i)] In stuffing-box joints of the type in which packing 4 is compressed in each end of a sleeve 7 bridging the pipe ends, the internal diameter of the sleeve is increased at its centre and the bores of the pressure rings 3 are enlarged outwardly so that the pipes may be arranged slightly out of alignment. The pressure rings may be screwed into the sleeves or connected by bayonet-type joints as shown.
