A., 28, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Zegers, A. ; Edificio La Mutual de la Armada, 9‹ Piso, Oficina 1, Santiago, Chile) July 25, 1934, No. 21782. [Classes 41 and 114] [See also Group XXXIV] A feathering paddle wheel which may also be used as a road wheel comprises a rotary disc 12, driven by a shaft 1, with paddles 13 rotatably mounted on radial shafts 9, the paddles being adapted to be rotated through 90‹ onto stops 15 by tappet rods 6 bearing at one end on a cam-shaped projection 14 on the paddle and at the other end on a stationary cam ring 4. As the disc 12 rotates the tappets 6 ride up the high part of the cam ring 4 to feather the paddles as shown in the lower half of the Figure. The cam 4 may be rotated by bevel gearing to alter the position at which the paddles are feathered and when working submerged in a fluid may be rotated through 180‹ whereby the craft may be steered or its direction reversed. The paddles may be concave and alternate paddles may rotate in opposite directions.
