Abstract
426,015. Paddle-wheels. SPRIGINGS, W. A., 59, Bernard Street, St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33605. [Classes 4 and 114] A feathering paddlewheel is arranged with its blades supported at their roots along a whole width by a disc of equal or greater diameter. The blade 3 has a disc 9 at its root with which it may be integral or to which it may be pivotally secured by a pivot 15. The outer periphery of the disc is disposed entirely within recesses in the side rotary carrier frame 2 and this in turn is supported in recesses within the main stationary frame 1 which may be part of the hull of a ship. The means for feathering the blades as by gearing are disposed on the outer peripheries of the discs but axial shafts 14 may be provided and the main drive may similarly be effected by gearing 10 at a distance remote from the axis or by a hollow shaft 7. The spaces between the recesses are provided with glands 11 and the supports therein may take the form of roller bearings 5, 8, &c. Specification 356,285 is referred to.
