Abstract
441,651. Soles for boots etc.; moulding. HERTFORDSHIRE RUBBER CO., Ltd., Works Road, and ENTWISLE, G., 131, Wibury Road, both in Letchworth, Hertfordshire. Nov. 5, 1934, No. 31771. [Class 17 (ii)] [See also Group V] A sole for a shoe, more particularly a sandal, is formed with a plurality of transverse slots through which are passed one or more lacing elements or straps for holding the sole in position on the foot. The slots are formed, as shown, by grooves 4... 7 in the upper surface of the outer sole 2 in co-operation with the undersurface of an insole 1, and a single strap 3 may be detachably threaded therethrough, as shown, to attach the sole in position. The soles are stamped transversely from a strip of rubber formed by extrusion and having longitudinal grooves therein at the desired locations. Such strip may have integral therewith a thickened portion under the ball and a heel. The upper sole member or insole 1 may be of rubber or leather and may be cemented to the outer sole member 2 before or after the latter are stamped from the strip.
