Abstract

438,904. Belt - tensioning pulleys. HADDAN, R., 31, Bedford Street, Strand, London.-(Western States Machine Co. ; Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A.) June 25, 1934, No. 18742. [Class 80 (i)] The spindle 7 of a resiliently-urged pulley 8 is universally adjustable, as for example by spherical washers 9, 10 and clamping nut 11, on a movable support 5. In the form shown, the support 5 is carried on a slide 4 urged along its slideway by a weight 25 acting through an arm 17, shaft 14, pinion 13, and rack 12. The tubular arm 17 carries a spring-pressed plunger 18 adapted to engage a ratchet wheel 15 on the shaft 14. The plunger may be released by a knob 18a to adjust the position of the arm 17, the tension of the belt being maintained by throwing over the weighted arm 21 of a latch (not shown), the hooked end of which then engages the teeth of the ratchet wheel 15.
