438,217. Converting; frequency changing; motors. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 22, 1934, No. 18526. Convention date, June 22, 1933. [Classes 35 and 38 (ii)] Machines with vapour or like rectifiers in place of commutators.-The valves in a converting arrangement for supplying a load such as a motor with a variable frequency current from a supply of fixed frequency, are controlled by an arrangement comprising chokes 32-35 and 36-39 in parallel and series respectively with the primary windings of the grid transformers 27-30, the values of these chokes being varied by an inductor 40 driven by the motor so as to render the grid transformers periodically ineffective. The corresponding chokes in the groups are arranged 90‹ phase displaced. To render a group of valves conducting the inductor disc 40 is moved so that the impedance of the choke in parallel with the grid transformer is increased and the impedance of the choke in series is reduced thus rendering the grid transformer effective. In a modification the chokes connected in series are omitted. Specification 418,297 is referred to.
