Abstract

437,001. Vehicle &c. lamps. DIETRICH, F. R., 227, Freimannerstrasse, Freimann, Munich, Germany. Jan. 24, 1935, Nos. 2405, 2406, 2407, 2408, and 2409. Convention dates, Jan. 25, 1934, Feb. 5, 1934, April 25, 1934, June 14, 1934, and Dec. 17, 1934. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a vehicle or like lamp comprising a light source at the focus of an approximately half ellipsoidal reflector the open end of which is fitted with a lens system, the latter comprises two or more dispersing lenses of different dispersing powers. Fig. 1 shows a one-piece lens system 5 comprising a central plano-concave part of weak dispersing power so as to produce a concentrated long distance beam, and an outer plano-concave part which converges the rays across the axis of the ellipsoidal reflector 1 and produces a dispersed marginal beam. Fig. 2 shows a one-piece lens system 6 comprising a central concavo-concave part surrounded by a series of concentric strips 7 of different radii of curvature so that the dispersion of the beam increases from the centre outwardly. Fig. 4 shows a weak dispersing lens 8 surrounded by a more strongly dispersing lens 9. Figs. 6 and 7 show a one-piece lens system formed on its inner concave surface with zones 141, 14<11>, 14<111> of different curvature, and on its outer convex surface with vertical cylindrical surfaces 15, 16, the upper cylindrical surfaces 15 being of smaller radius than the lower cylindrical surfaces 16 so that the upper portion of the beam is dispersed more than the lower portion. The cylindrical surfaces 15 may be coloured yellow, whilst the light source may comprise superposed filaments provided with means for screening the lower filament. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of: (i) one or more condensing lenses, (ii) the lens 8 without the lens 9, and (iii) a reflector comprising a central paraboloidal part surrounded by an ellipsoidal part, with or without a lens system. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
