Abstract

450,348. Vehicle &c.lamps. MORSHEAD, L. R., 11, Crompton Court, Chelsea, London. Sept. 17, 1935, No. 25751. [Class 75 (iv)] A vehicle or like lamp, adapted to project a concentrated beam and a dispersed beam suitable for long distance and local illumination respectively, comprises an ellipsoidal reflector d truncated to the rear of its fundamental focus, a frontal focusing lens c having its focus at or approximately at the conjugate focus f of the reflector, a light source f disposed in close proximity to the fundamental focus, a substantially cylindrical casing a, b between the reflector and the lens, and an aperture, diaphragm or cut-off plate g disposed between the focii of the reflector and in close proximity to the conjugate focus f<1>. A plano-convex lens h, or other refractor of weak refractive power, may be mounted in slotted leaf spring carriers h<1> so as to act upon those rays which do not fall upon the reflector. A part spherical rear reflector may be arranged with its centre of curvature coincident with the fundamental focus of the reflector. The position of the lens c may be adjusted by mounting the portion b of the lamp casing to telescope partially within the portion a and be secured in position as by means of screws b<1>.
