Abstract

379,568. Searchlights. REYMOND, L. D., 14, Rue du Val d'Osne, St-Maurice, Seine, France. Nov. 23, 1931, No. 32466. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1930. Addition to 357,907. [Class 75 (iv).] In a searchlight comprising a reflecting surface of revolution 6 adapted to intercept rays from the front half of a source of light 1-1a and to direct them towards a small region substantially coinciding with the focus of a projection lens 9, the rays being re-directed from this small region on to the lens by means of a small reflecting cone 7 or like surface of revolution situated on the common axis X-X of the searchlight, as described'in the parent Specification, rearwardly directed rays are intercepted by a central reflector 11 and reflected forwardly in an annular beam around the cone and converging substantially in the focal plane of the lens. The generatrix of the reflector 11 may comprise two elliptical arcs CF, FD having proximate foci substantially coinciding with the end 1a of the filament 1-1a and remote foci on the lines FH, DH or on the sides of these lines remote from the focus 1a. A screen 13 may be disposed adjacent the apex of the cone so as to cut off those rays which would otherwise be projected upwardly from the searchlight. In a modification the lower halves of the reflectors 6, 11 are replaced by a recuperating reflector which is preferably spherical with its centre coinciding with the mid-point of the filament.
