Abstract
434,384. Mounting for optical instruments. BARR & STROUD, Ltd., and FRENCH, J. W., Caxton Street, Anniesland, Glasgow. Aug. 4, 1934, No. 22753. [Class 97 (i)] Mountings for optical instruments, such as range - finders and telescopes, intended for low and high angle observation, and which provide a yielding support for the instrument permitting of ready adjustment of the instrument during use, nave tne support afforded by a spring system which itself acts as the support and carries the entire weight which is on the mounting. The mounting shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises two supporting members, having at their upper ends crutch rests 5 for a range-finder and at their lower ends a spring part 7 attached to an apron 8 of harness consisting of waist and shoulder straps 10, 11. In a form shown in Fig. 4, crutch rests are formed on a cross bar supported by a member comprising arms 4 and a spring part 7. Instead of, as in forms described above, the mounting projecting in front of the observer it may be arranged to project towards the back of the observer as in the form shown in plan Fig. 6, where two supporting members 4, 7 are pivoted at positions 12 on a waist-belt. A cross bar member supported by two adjustable members as described may have pivoted or attached to it a platform on which an observation instrument, e.g. a pair of binoculars, may be mounted.
