Abstract
602,831. Supports for sighting instruments. ARENCO AKTIEBOLAG. Oct. 19, 1945, No. 27602. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1944. [Class 92 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] The mechanism for rotating a sighting instrument such as a range finder or telescope in elevation is so coupled to the observer's seat or support that the latter is moved during changes in elevation to maintain the observer's eyes in approximately the correct position for observation, the radius of rotation of the eyepiece being different from the distance between the hollow of the neck of the observer and his eyes so that he merely bends his neck to permit easy vision. The principle of the invention is illustrated in Fig. 5. The range finder 1, and a telescope 16 with objectives 3, 18, eyepieces.2, 17 respectively are rotatable about an axis 0 to the dotted positions shown. During such rotation the observer's seat is moved so that his neck hollow moves in the curve shown from the position B to B1 whereby his eyes move with the eyepieces. As shown in Fig. 3, the range finder 1 having eyepieces 2 mounted on a bar 5 also carrying two sighting telescopes one 16, being shown. The bar 5 is carried by lever arms 6 secured to a pin 31 rotatable on the casing and carrying a lever 9 having a pivot 33 from which is suspended a link 10 bearing on bar carrying a seat or seats 14 for the observer. The seat is adjusted until the neck hollow of the observer coincides with a line through the pin 33 parallel to the axis of rotation of pin 31, i.e. to a point corresponding to B in Fig. 5. On rotating the pin 31 by a worm gear the instruments are moved in elevation and the compensating movements of the observer carried out. The mount is rotatable about a vertical axis by suitable known mechanisms. The seat may be replaced by a platform for standing observers.
