Abstract
432,965. Travelling grates. PARKER, A. E., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London. Feb. 6, 1934, Nos. 3871 and 18899. [Class 51 (i)] In a drop link 1 of a travelling chain grate stoker the aperture 2 presenting the bearing surface for supporting the link on the carrier rail is provided with a bearing surface 3 of a width approximately equal to or less than the thickness of the main body of the link and a portion or portions of the usual webs 5 on one or both sides of the link is or are omitted so as to leave gaps for the discharge of ash that might accumulate around the bearing surfaces. As shown in Fig. 1, the gap extends over a large portion of the aperture and the link is steadied by a bearing surface 6. At the end at which the usual web is omitted the beading 7 is thickened to provide, with the retained portion of the web 5, an adequate bearing and spacing surface in conjunction with the corresponding surfaces of adjacent links. A projection 8 on one side of each link serves to maintain correct spacing. A tail guard 11 to prevent the link from dropping between the rollers extends over only a portion of the depth of the link in order to allow the discharge of ash. In the form shown in Fig. 4 the gap extends over a short part of the periphery of the aperture and on one side of the link only.
