Abstract
432,528. Mounting chucks &c. on spindles. LANG & SONS, Ltd., J., Mary Street, LANG, W. B., The Grange, and SHACKLETON, E., Marrel Dene, all in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. March 1, 1935, No. 6474. [Class 83 (iii)] In mounting chucks, face-plates, &c. on lathe and like spindles, the spindle 1 terminates in a flange 3 having circular holes 7 through which pass studs 6 on the chuck 2. A ring 4 is rotatably mounted on the spindle adjacent the flange 3 and is provided with key-hole slots 5 to receive the studs. When the wider ends of the slots 5 are in line with the holes 7, nuts and washers 8, 9 on the studs may be passed through to the position shown in Fig. 1, whereupon rotation of the ring 4 brings the narrow ends of the slots under the washers and the chuck is secured by tightening up the nuts 8. The chuck is centred by a conical spigot 10 on the flange 3 and is driven by a key 12 on the flange engaging a slot 13 therein. Tommy bar holes 14 are provided in the ring 4 and its rotation is limited by a pin 15 on the flange 3 engaging an arcuate slot 16 in the ring. Springs 17 maintain the washers 9 in contact with the nuts 8 to facilitate insertion through the slots 5.
