Abstract
432,428. Protective arrangements. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, Westminster, and SUTTON, G. W., 25, Cranleigh Road, Merton Park, London. Jan. 25, 1934, No. 2576. [Class 38 (iv)] A telephone circuit TE liable to excess voltages is connected to a similar circuit TM situated in a dangerous quarter liable to explosions, e.g. in a mine, by means of a loosely coupled transformer TR the secondary winding, or a tertiary winding coupled thereto, being connected to one or more vapour discharge type arresters NT. The arresters may be connected across the terminals of the secondary winding from which the outgoing circuit may be tapped at a lower voltage. In addition a relay R of the self-locking type may be connected in parallel with the arresters NT in series with a resistance RE so that in the event of the arresters failing the relay R operates and its contacts r short circuit the primary of the transformer TR. The transformer core, and /or a shield therein, may be earthed.
