Abstract

841,181. Protective cut-out arrangements. BIEGELMEIER, G. Feb. 28, 1958 [March 2, 1957], No. 6564/58. Class 38 (5). In an earth leakage protective arrangement, the energy induced in the secondary winding of a transformer 1 charges a capacitor 2 through a rectifier 7 until the voltage across the capacitor is sufficient to operate a voltage dependent means 3 and permit the capacitor to discharge through a trip-coil 5 to cause the opening of the protected circuit or apparatus. The transformer may have its primary winding between metal parts of the protected apparatus and earth or may be arranged as a core-balance transformer, Fig. 2 (not shown). The means 3 may be a cold-cathode discharge device such as a glow discharge lamp which by repeated flashing would indicate an earth leakage condition should the circuit-breaker fail to open. Charging and/or discharging resistors, such as the resistor 4, may be provided.
