Abstract

427,882. Rollers for gill - boxes, drawing-frames, &c. PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., Hartford Works, Oldham, and HUGHES, J., 903, Oldham Road, Rochdale. July 29, 1933, No. 21323. [Class 120 (ii)] A top roller for a gill-box, intersecting gillbox, worsted drawing-frame, or like machine comprises a sleeve 6 supporting a revoluble boss or body 2 and formed with a cylindrical or other hole adapting it to be applied around an arbor 1 which is movable up and down without being revolved and is larger at its central part 3 than at the ends 4, 5 the sleeve 6 being rockable thereon. Ball bearings 8 are interposed between the sleeve 6 and the roller body 2 the inner ball races 14 being fixed around the sleeve 6, the outer ball races 16 with a distance piece 17 being secured in a sleeve 18 while rings or collars 15, 19 are provided to prevent escape of lubricant. The sleeve 6 and roller body 2 may be removable from the arbor 1 as a unit. The sleeve 6 is held upon the arbor 1 between a shoulder 9 and a spring clip 10 secured in a groove 13 between the outer end of the sleeve 6 and a shoulder 9*. A washer 12 is also provided. The external sleeve 20 applied around the sleeve 18 is fluted or provided with a sleeve of leather 21. Alternatively two leather sleeves 21, 22 may be provided. The sleeves 18, 20 are secured together by the overlapping heads of screws 23 and by a peg 24 secured in a radial hole in the sleeve 18 and accommodated in a groove 26 in the sleeve 20.
