Abstract

[Classes 112 and 141] A method of attaching waist bands to garments so that a hand-stitched effect is simulated consists of sewing a stiffening band 1 to a lining band 2, with a linen strengthening tape 3, by a row of stitches a, Fig. 1. The lining is then folded over, doubled over the stiffener, and sewn by a row of overedge stitches 4, Fig. 3. The band is then attached to the top of the trousers at the overedge stitches 4, Fig. 5, folded down, and further secured by a row of stitches C in the tape 3, these stitches being covered when the lining 2 is ironed flat, Fig. 5. A coloured thread b may be laid along the overedge stitches to guide the machinist in attaching the band to the garment.
