[Class 122 (i)] A steel piston comprises a tubular body 1 to which are welded or brazed an end plate 2, gudgeon pin bosses 4 supported by plates 5, and radial stiffening webs 7. Annular ribs 6 may be welded to the head or the plates 5 may be formed in a piece bridging the bosses and welded to the underside of the head. A central rib 3 is machined on the body.
