424,784. Blasting-cartridges. PAYN, R. C., 10, Melbourne Terrace, WHITE, A. G., 45, Caledonia Road, both in Saltcoats, Ayrshire, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Aug. 30, 1933, No. 24072. [Class 9 (i)] Cooling-sheaths for blasting-cartridges are made by mixing cooling salts with an aqueous solution of an organic binder and a hygroscopic polyhydric alcohol such as glycerine or ethylene glycol, and forming the paste into sheets or moulding it into tubular shape. Cooling salts mentioned are sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium chloride, calcium fluoride, and ammonium salts. Suitable organic binders are starch, gelatine, glue, rubber latex, methyl cellulose, alkali metal alginates, and agar-agar. Other materials may be added for example ivory nut meal which accelerates the setting of the paste, or peat which retards the setting.
