Abstract

420,284. Tension arrangements for cop-winding and like machines. REINERS, W., (trading as SCHLAFHORST & CO., W.), 214, Bahnstrasse, Gladbach, Munich, Germany. July 6, 1934, No. 19913. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1933. [Class 120 (ii)] In cop-winding and like machines wherein the yarn passes between rotating brake discs pressed towards each other by weights or springs, all the discs are driven from a shaft 6 through couplings individually disconnected when a yarn breaks. Discs 1, 2, Fig. 1, are mounted on a sleeve 3 frictionally driven from the shaft 6 by a collar 7 against which it is pressed by an adjustable spring 13. A cup 4, constituting the end of the sleeve 3, houses a friction washer 5 and embraces the collar 7, and the discs 1, 2 are pressed thereagainst by an adjustable spring 10 and engage one of a number of grooves 11 therein so as to be positively driven. Upon breakage of an end a detector lever 17 rotates a shaft 18 and causes an arm 26 to engage one of the grooves 11 and stop the sleeve 3. The springs 10 of all the devices may be simultaneously adjusted by means of arms 38 extending from a rod 37, Fig. 8, which, as shown, is operated by a cam 46 on the shaft 6 so that the pressure between the discs is alternately increased and decreased in accordance with the diameter of winding. The cam 46 may be driven independently to obtain any desired variation in tension. The hub of the disc 1 is provided with holes 15 and that of the disc 2 with radial slots to facilitate the discharge of foreign matter.
