Abstract

Benzdioxane bases of the formula <FORM:0420078/IV/1> are prepared by reacting the corresponding benz-halogenmethyl-dioxanes with primary or secondary aliphatic amines or saturated heterocyclic amines. The benz - halogenmethyl - dioxanes are obtained by condensing pyrocatechol with glycerine halohydrins at an elevated temperature in the presence of sufficient alkali to eliminate all the halogen and treating the resulting benz-methylol-dioxane with a halogenating agent ; thus, epichlorhydrin or glycerine-1 : 3-dichlorhydrin may be used as the halohydrin, and thionyl chloride or hydrobromic acid as the halogenating agent. The products possess therapeutic properties. Examples are given of the interaction of benz-chlormethyl-dioxane with methylamine, diethylamine and piperidine, whilst the sample provided is prepared from benz-chlormethyl-dioxane and piperazine.
