Abstract

418,931. Valves. AUDLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., Avenue Road, and LEACH, K. M., Brookfield House, both in Newport, Shropshire. Aug. 10, 1933, No. 22363. [Class 135.] In valves of the kind in which the closure member is separated from its seating when the valve is opened, one or more apertures, opening on to the contacting surfaces of the closure member or its seating, lead to a chamber, for lubricant or the like, formed in the closure member or valve casing, the apertures having valves which project beyond the surfaces containing the apertures so that the valves are closed when the closure member is in open position, but are opened when the closure member is in closed position. As shown, holes in seating rings b are controlled by spring-pressed valves k and communicate through ducts g and non-return valves s to a chamber n. The latter contains a lubricating, sealing or cleansing substance, and a pair of spring-urged plungers m. The valve closure member a holds the valves k open when it is in the closed position so that the substance in the chamber n is forced through the holes j. The fluid controlled by the valve may also be admitted behind the plungers m. The closure member a is in two parts each guided by a projection engaging a guide 5 in the valve casing. Between the parts are four balls or rollers y, the upper one bearing on a plate 2 and the lower one bearing on a member 3 loosely carried by the member a. A member x projects upwardly from the bottom of the casing. When the closure member a is moved into closed position, the projection x engages the member 3 so that the balls or rollers y move the two parts of the closure member into wedging contact with the seating surfaces. In a modification, the plunger m is provided in the closure member and the actuating rod c is hollow and is provided with a screwed hollow plug.
